This day attempts to emphasise the significance of abandoning the prevalent phenomenon of gender roles in favour of the more inclusive, albeit unpopular, concept of gender equity. The day is also about striking a balance between relationship duties and the freedom for each couple to freely exercise their individual skills to enhance their relationship and personal lives.

True to his name, Ogunjinmi instituted the day to expand his influence by not only enhancing the health of numerous relationships, but also eradicating the root of the majority of problems. The renowned coach is an advocate for eliminating relationship inequalities. With the introduction of National Relationship Equity Day, he took his advocacy a step further and sought to establish an unpopular concept that would eradicate a great deal of couple-related issues.

Since the 20th century, advocates have fought for gender equality in relationships, but relationship equity is a relatively new concept. It arose from the errors and deficiencies discovered in the application of the concept of gender equality.
