Dhanbad: IIT ISM conducts workshop on ‘improved motion control of vehicles’

Chief guest Prof Shekhar highlighted the importance of intelligent control in off-highway vehicles.

The Mechanical Engineering department at IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad conducted a workshop on ‘intelligent Mobile Hydraulics and Advance Automation for Improved Motion Control of Off-Highway Vehicles’ on Monday.

IIT ISM director Prof Rajiv Shekhar inaugurated the week-long workshop (July 25-30) where faculties of prominent technical institutions of the country such as IIT Kharagpur, NIT Trichy, NIT Warangal, MNIT Allahabad, NIT Srinagar, NIT Surathkal, NIT Kurukshetra, KIIT Bhubaneswar, PTU Puducherry will be participating.

Chief guest Prof Shekhar highlighted the importance of intelligent control in off-highway vehicles.

Coordinator Prof Ajit Kumar said that the workshop is aimed to provide in-depth knowledge to the participants particularly in understanding the advanced physics of mobile hydraulics and skill development in fluid power systems required for handling research problems.

“The workshop would help students, and PhD scholars to explore diverse perspectives related to the design of hydraulic transmission systems used in off-highway vehicles and advanced automation to improve their motion control, enhancing the system’s efficiency,” he said.

The workshop is sponsored by Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) through Accelerate Vigyan Scheme (AVS), Govt. of India and facilitated by IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. The inaugural session of the workshop was held on Monday at 10 AM.

Prof SK Ghosh, head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering addressed the participants and detailed the department and its achievement. Prof Ajit Kumar, the coordinator welcomed the participants and discussed the workshop.

He told that hydraulics is a very important part of industrial society and its range lies from off-highway vehicles to Bio-medical devices. “Hydraulic hybrid vehicles will be imperative in the coming future as it will provide the benefit of green energy and high efficiency, both at a time,” he said.

Prof Kumar further added that this intelligent hydraulic system will be the next-gen technology replacing the mechanical counterpart completely.
