According to TMZ, the athlete died of stomach cancer at her residence in the San Fernando Valley and this becomes the Lisa Lyon Death Cause.

In fact, the news arrived only days after her illness became public knowledge. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was one of her closest companions, expressed his sorrow to the media after learning of the fatal outcome. “She’s the best, I adore her,” he declared.

However, Lyon will go down in history as a pioneering athlete who came to revolutionise the world of bodybuilding and prove that women could also be successful in the sport.

She demonstrated that, despite the fact that the field had historically been dominated by males, she could perform with the same vigour and skill.

In 1979, she won the first Women’s Professional Bodybuilding World Championships hosted by the International Federation of Bodybuilding. Not only was it a victory she won for herself, but it also demonstrated that women can be empowered in sports.

Outside of the realm of bodybuilding, she posed for Playboy, which surprised everyone but was well received. After that, she began to appear in more health and fitness publications and make television appearances.

It was in 2000 that she was immortalised in the International Fitness and Bodybuilding Hall of Fame. At the time, she was described as “a one-woman media relations activist”.
