Mark Sheehan Obituary: Following a brief illness, the iconic Irish rock duo The Script announced today that co-founding guitarist Mark Sheehan has passed away. He was 46. There was an absence of any information.

“Beloved husband, father, brother, bandmate, and friend Mark Sheehan died today in hospital after a brief illness,” the band wrote on social media. “During this difficult time, the family and the band ask that their privacy be respected,”

From 2010 to 2019, The Script had the most number-one singles and albums of any Irish act, earning them the title of “Official Irish Charts Artist of the Decade” from the Irish Record Music Association. It has had six consecutive No. 1 albums in the UK, most recently releasing a greatest hits collection. Additionally, it had three No. 1 singles and four additional Top 5 placements in Ireland.

After relocating to London, the band released its self-titled debut album in 2008, which became the most popular album in the United Kingdom and Ireland almost immediately. The band received the International Award at the Silver Clef Awards in the United Kingdom in 2018. The Script also enjoyed some success in the United States; their 2008 single “Breakeven” peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and three of their albums debuted in the Top 15 of the Billboard 200. (with Science & Faith reaching No. 3). Dublin was the birthplace of Sheehan on October 29, 1976. Rina Sheehan, his wife of 18 years, and their three children Cameron, Avery, and Lil survive him.
