Melinda Dillon Cause Of Death, A Christmas Story actor dies at 83

Melinda Dillon Cause Of Death: Melinda Dillon, who portrayed the mother in A Christmas Story and warned Ralphie he would shoot out his eye, died on January 9 at the age of 83. She was also well-known for her supporting performances in the Oscar-nominated films Absence of Malice (1981) and Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) by Sydney Pollack and Steven Spielberg, respectively.

1939 Hope, Arkansas-born Dillon spent her adolescence in Chicago. She was reputedly the first coat-check girl in the history of the improv comedy club in Second City. When entertainer Barbara Harris felt ill one evening, Dillon was offered the opportunity to perform.

Dillon moved to New York after completing his college acting requirements and left the Midwest. She received a Tony nomination for her performance as Honey in the original 1963 production of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, in which she made her Broadway debut at the age of 23.

1969’s The April Fools was her first film, starring Matt Dillon. Her performance in the Woody Guthrie film Bound for Glory got her a nomination for a Golden Globe in 1976.

Her notable film and television roles include Magnolia, The Muppet Movie, Harry and the Hendersons, Slap Shot, Sioux City, and To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything.

Jillian Newmar, She ceased performing in 2007, but holiday reruns of A Christmas Story have kept her on our televisions. Following their 1978 divorce, Dillon wed Richard Libertini, an actor she met at the Second City. Richard Libertini Jr., their son, is her sole heir.
