Triple murder in Jamshedpur; lady constable, daughter and mother killed with sharp weapon

Those found brutally killed were Sabita Hembrom (39), daughter Gita (13) and mother Lakhia Murmu (75).

Jamshedpur: A lady constable and two members of her family were found murdered inside her residential flat at Golmuri Police Line rocking the high-security area late on Thursday night.

Those found brutally killed were Sabita Hembrom (39), daughter Gita (13) and mother Lakhia Murmu (75).

The ghastly murders have taken place on the first floor of the six-storey apartment meant for the police personnel in the Police Line.

Getting to know about the incident, Senior SP Prabhat Kumar and City SP K Vijay Shankar beside several other police officers reached the spot and inspected the murder scene.

The walls of the living room were stained with blood everywhere. Sabita’s body was lying on a cot whereas the bodies of her daughter and mother were lying on the floor.

To find out clues to the killings, the senior SP pressed a team of forensic experts at the murder scene and also ordered for getting CCTV footage of the area.

“There is no doubt that this is a case of murder, but we can not say anything about who is behind these killings. Investigation is on,” said Arvind Kumar, OC, Golmuri thana under which the Police Line falls said while talking to this website.

The sensational incident was discovered after the lady constable’s sister Ranu Mardi had started finding out the reason behind her absence from duty at the senior SP office for the past two days. Sabita’s colleague, Laxmi Hansda who is also posted at the SSP office had wanted to know about her sister’s absence from duty since Tuesday.

Ranu Mardi who resides somewhere else in the city had first tried to contact her sister over her cellphone, but when the calls were not responded to despite repeated attempts, she rushed to the Golmuri Police Line at about 11 pm and found the flat’s door locked from outside.

According to police, Ranu Mardi with the help of the neighbours broke open the door lock to find the three bodies in the living room.

Sabita’s husband Kailash Hembrom was also in the police department and was killed by Naxals in the Ghatshila subdivision of the district. She later got the police job on the compensatory ground.

It is suspected that Sabita’s brother-in-law who is a resident of the Dumaria block of the Ghatshila subdivision might be behind the killings as he was strongly opposed to the murder victim’s police job on the compensatory ground after his brother’s death.
