CalFresh Payment October: CalFresh, California’s version of the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), provides monthly aid to help low-income families and individuals purchase nutritious food. This week, many might wonder who will be receiving their benefits.

With around 4.8 million eligible participants, California leads the nation in SNAP enrollment. The program, managed by the Department of Agriculture, assists approximately 42 million people across the U.S.

CalFresh Benefits Distribution

CalFresh benefits are distributed using an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card, which functions like a debit card. Recipients can use these cards at grocery stores and farmers’ markets to enhance food security and access to healthy meals.

EBT cardholders can buy approved foods from authorized retailers with their card. It can only be used to purchase groceries, which include fruits, vegetables, grains, meats, dairy products, and bread. The benefit amount is electronically stored.

Also eligible are prepared foods and seeds for home gardening. Its goal is to give recipients access to wholesome, nourishing foods so they can maintain balanced diets. But you can’t use CalFresh to purchase non-food items like cleaning supplies, pet food, cosmetics, vitamins, or medications, or to purchase alcohol, tobacco, or vitamins.

In addition, non-food items and hot prepared foods from restaurants or fast-food outlets are not eligible. Depending on the seriousness of the offense, those who try to do so may risk having their benefits suspended or canceled in addition to facing additional legal action.

CalFresh benefits are typically distributed within the first ten days of each month, meaning most of October’s payments have already been disbursed. The exact date a recipient receives their benefits depends on the last digit of their case number.

To check your case number and distribution date, you can visit the BenefitsCal website if you’re registered or refer to official documents sent by your local county office.

  • Case number ends in six: Benefits available October 6.
  • Case number ends in seven: Benefits available October 7.
  • Case number ends in eight: Benefits available October 8.
  • Case number ends in nine: Benefits available October 9.
  • Case number ends in zero: Benefits available October 10.
