CalFresh Recertification August 2025: Important date to keep your benefits going

CalFresh recipients must complete recertification by the deadline in August 2025 to keep receiving food benefits. Missing it may cause delays or loss of support, depending on the situation.

CalFresh Recertification August 2025: A lot of people in California rely on CalFresh to help buy food every month. This program, which used to be called food stamps, is super important for low-income families. But if someone wants to keep getting this help, they need to go through something called recertification every few months.

This usually happens after six to twelve months. If you don’t do it on time or miss any part of it, you could lose your benefits. Sometimes the loss is temporary, but sometimes it could stop fully, and that can really affect families.

Recertification means that people have to show they still qualify for CalFresh. The state wants to check that things like income, household size, and other info haven’t changed too much. You need to fill out a form called CF 37, and sometimes you also have to talk to someone from the county, either over the phone or in person.

What Happens when there’s a Delay in the Process?

If the person getting CalFresh takes too long to turn in paperwork or skips the interview, the county might deny the application. But there is still some time to fix it. If you send in whatever you missed within 30 days after your certification period ends, the county must pull back the denial and give you your benefits. These would start from the day you finished turning in what was needed.

It is not always your fault. Maybe the county made a mistake or didn’t finish their part of the process. If you did everything right and on time, but the delay was the county’s fault, you still should get your benefits.

If you forget to recertify and only send in the paperwork within 30 days after your time ends, there’s still a chance to get your help back. But if you’re more than 30 days late, then your recertification becomes a brand new application and you will have to redo the whole process.

How to Keep your CalFresh Help Going?

The best thing to do is make sure you turn in your recertification form before the 15th of the last month in your certification period. That gives enough time for everything to be processed without stress.

Always read the letters and messages they send you, whether by mail or online. These notices tell you what you need to do. Save copies of everything you send in, like forms or documents. If you don’t hear anything, call your social worker to check in.

If your application gets denied and you think it was a mistake, don’t wait go ahead and appeal it. You can also talk to Legal Services of Northern California or other similar groups that offer free legal help. They can explain your rights and help you fix problems if the county did something wrong.
