Millions of families in New York must spend their Summer EBT benefits before October 17, 2025. Unused funds from the first wave, issued last June, will be permanently lost.

New York Summer EBT Funds 2025: Millions of families in New York who got the first round of benefits from the federal Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer program are running out of time. The funds from the first wave were issued on June 18, and they come with a strict expiration date. Any money left on EBT cards after 122 days will automatically disappear. Experts are warning families to check their balances and spend the money quickly. Once the funds expire, they cannot be replaced.

Texas SNAP Payments: Who Gets Funds Between October 13 and 19, 2025?

The Summer EBT program is ran by New York State’s Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA). It gives low income families money to buy food, working like SNAP benefits and basically help them survive. Each eligible child can get up to $120 for the summer as well. The program is meant to help families provide nutritious meals while school is not in session.

Who can get Summer EBT?

Children has to meet certain requirements to get the benefits:

  • Child between 6 and 16 years old: Receive benefits from SNAP, TANF, or Medicaid during the eligibility period.
  • A child of any age: Be directly certified for free school meals through the National School Lunch Program by their school.

If a child is not automatically selected, families can apply manually:

  • Child must go to a school that takes part in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).
  • Household income must be at or below 185% of the federal poverty level.

Each family that qualifies will receive $120 per child.
