SNAP benefits boost Texas: Hurricane Beryl victims to get SNAP benefits boost

Texas SNAP beneficiaries affected by Hurricane Beryl can now request replacement food from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, according to Governor Dan Patrick.

SNAP benefits boost Texas: Those in Texas who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and were impacted by Hurricane Beryl are now eligible to apply for replacement food for food that was lost during the storm.

Acting Governor Dan Patrick announced Thursday that the Texas Health and Human Services Commission was granted federal authority to enable SNAP participants to request replacement benefits for food that was lost or destroyed during Hurricane Beryl.

The notification states that food and formula benefits lost during the disaster are also being replaced by the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).

Patrick’s disaster declarations list 121 counties, and only residents of those counties are eligible to apply for replacement compensation. Applications must be submitted by August 8th. After approval, the replacement benefits will be added to their Lone Star Cards in a matter of two business days.

In response, if a person is already eligible, the Texas Department of Health and Human Services will permit them to obtain physical food stamps rather than the usual electronic bank transfer cards (EBT).

This is due to the power outages, flooding, property loss, and other effects of natural catastrophes produced by Tropical Storm Beryl, which left many Texans in a state of uncertainty across 121 eligible counties. The help will continue until August 8, 2024.
