SNAP Benefits Rise From October 1, 2025: How Much Your Family Will Receive?

SNAP benefits will go up starting October 1, 2025 giving families more money for food. Payments depend on household size and other criteria.

SNAP Benefits Rise From October: The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, which people used to call food stamps, is getting a boost in monthly benefits starting October 1, 2025. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) confirmed the change that this increase is meant to help families buy enough food as prices keep going up. Millions of low-income households across the country will see the rise in thier monthly payments now.

In some states and territories, the amounts will change a lot. In Alaska, a family of four can now get between $1,285 and $1,995. In Hawaii, benefits will go down slightly to $1,723. In Guam, the maximum will be $1,689, and in the U.S. Virgin Islands, it will be $1,278.

Minimum Benefits and Rules

The minimum monthly SNAP benefit will usually be $24, but in Alaska it will range from $31 to $48. In Hawaii, the minimum will stay $41. The exact amount someone gets depends on things like income, work rules, and certain expenses they can deduct.

There are also rules about what you can buy with SNAP. You cannot use it for alcohol, tobacco, medicines, vitamins, live animals (except some seafood or poultry), hot ready-to-eat food, or non-food items like cleaning supplies or pet food.

New amounts according to household size

The maximum monthly payments for the 48 contiguous states and Washington D.C. will be as follows:

– 1 person: $298

– 2 people: $546

– 3 people: $785

– 4 people: $994

– 5 people: $1,183

– 6 people: $1,421

– 7 people: $1,571

– 8 people: $1,789

– For each additional person: +$218

What can you buy with an EBT card?

With the EBT card, beneficiaries can purchase:

– Fruits and vegetables

– Meat, fish and poultry

– Dairy products

– Breads, cereals and snacks

– Non-alcoholic beverages

– Seeds and plants that produce food

This increase gives real help to many families who struggle to afford food. With prices going up and inflation making life harder, this adjustment will make sure people can buy enough to eat. From October 1, beneficiaries will see the new amounts automatically on their EBT cards, so they can start using the extra money right away.
