SSI payments can sometimes come before the month starts. This happens when the first day of the month is a Saturday, Sunday or federal holiday. In those cases, SSA sends the payment on the previous business day.
For 2026, the next early SSI payment after September will be the October 30 payment for November. November 1, 2026 falls on a Sunday, so the November SSI payment will arrive at the end of October. The January 2027 SSI payment will also be sent early, on December 31, 2026, because January 1 is a federal holiday.
A payment may sometimes take extra time to appear in a bank account. SSA says people who don’t receive an electronic payment on the scheduled date should first check with their bank or financial institution. The bank may simply be taking longer to post the money.
If the payment is still missing, beneficiaries can contact Social Security at 1-800-772-1213. People who use TTY can call 1-800-325-0778. They can also contact their local Social Security office.
The Social Security Administration says it will announce the 2027 cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) in October 2026. The final number hasn’t been announced yet.
Current outside estimates put the 2027 COLA at about 3.4%. Mary Johnson, an independent Social Security and Medicare analyst, said the estimate is above the recent historical average of 2.6%. Her estimate can still change because the final COLA depends on inflation data used by SSA.
The COLA is based on the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers, known as CPI-W. The final amount is calculated using inflation data from the third quarter. The latest confirmed COLA is 2.8% for 2026.
