Social Security Payments December 31: Payment Arrive Early for Some in December 2025

Some Social Security beneficiaries will receive their January 2026 payment early on December 31, 2025, because New Year’s Day is a federal holiday that closes banks.

Social Security Payments December 31: As 2025 comes to an end, millions of people in the United States will see a small but important change in their Social Security payments. January 1 is a federal holiday, so banks and government offices will stay closed. Because of this, the Social Security Administration decided not to send payments on that day. Instead, the first payment meant for January 2026 will go out early, on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. This change helps people get their money on time without delays caused by the holiday.

Social Security Payment Dates For 2026: Full Monthly Schedule Explained

This early payment matters a lot for families who depend on Social Security every month. The government wants to make sure no one faces money trouble just because offices stay closed on New Year’s Day.

Who will get Paid on December 31, 2025?

The people who will receive their money on December 31 are Supplemental Security Income beneficiaries. This program helps adults who are 65 years or older. It also supports adults and children who live with disabilities or blindness and have very low income and resources. Normally, SSI payments arrive on the first day of each month. When that date falls on a weekend or a holiday, the rules say the payment must arrive on the last working day before. That is why January’s SSI money will come just before New Year’s Eve celebrations.

This early deposit makes sure that vulnerable people can still pay for food, rent, and other needs without stress.

January 2026 Payment Dates for Other Beneficiaries

People who receive retirement benefits, Social Security Disability Insurance, or survivor benefits will not get paid on December 31. Their payments will arrive later in January, based on their birth dates. If you were born between the 1st and 10th of any month, your payment will arrive on Wednesday, January 14.
