SSI Payment Schedule July 2026: Who Gets Paid Twice and Why?

People who began receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997 generally receive their monthly payment at the beginning of the month.

SSI Payment Schedule July 2026: Millions of Americans receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security benefits are preparing for their July 2026 payments. While most months follow a predictable schedule, July will be different for SSI recipients, with many receiving two payments during the same month because of a calendar adjustment by the Social Security Administration (SSA).

The additional July payment is not a bonus or extra benefit. Instead, it is the August SSI payment being sent early because August 1 falls on a Saturday. The SSA does not issue payments on weekends or federal holidays, so it moves the payment to the preceding business day.

SSI Payment Dates July 2026

Eligible SSI recipients can expect the following payment schedule:

  • Wednesday, July 1, 2026: Regular July SSI payment
  • Friday, July 31, 2026: August SSI payment issued early

For retirement, survivor, and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) beneficiaries who started receiving benefits after May 1997, payments will be sent according to birth dates:

  • July 8, 2026: Birth dates between the 1st and 10th
  • July 15, 2026: Birth dates between the 11th and 20th
  • July 22, 2026: Birth dates between the 21st and 31st

People who began receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997 generally receive their monthly payment at the beginning of the month under a separate payment schedule.

Why Are There Two SSI Payments in July?

The Social Security Administration follows a long-standing rule to ensure beneficiaries are paid on time. If your SSI payment is scheduled for the first of the month and this date falls on a federal holiday or the weekend, the SSA sends the payment on the last business day of the prior month. As the first day of August 2026 falls on Saturday, you should expect the payment to go through on July 31, 2026.

There is no additional monthly payment, nor has your annual total benefits increased. It just a matter of getting access to it.

What If Your Payment Is Delayed?

As an additional concern, if the SSI payment is not yet deposited in your account on the last business day, verify with your bank first if it’s just delayed for being processed. If a payment does not arrive as expected, beneficiaries are advised to first check with their financial institution. If the issue is not resolved, the SSA can be contacted directly at 1-800-772-1213. TTY users can reach support at 1-800-325-0778.
