Texas SNAP Beneficiaries to Receive January 2025 Payments This Week

SNAP provides food benefits to eligible individuals, enabling them to purchase essential food items. The program is overseen by USDA and Texas Health and Human Services.

Texas SNAP benefits payment in January: The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), also known as Food Stamps, is a federal initiative designed to help people purchase healthy food for maintaining good health. This program is overseen by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and in Texas, the Texas Health and Human Services (HHS) is responsible for meeting the specific needs of residents.

Eligible individuals receive SNAP benefits on an Electronic Banking Transfer (EBT) card, which is called the Lone Star Card. This card works like a debit or credit card and can be used to buy essential food items, including carbohydrates, fats, proteins, fruits, and vegetables. However, the card cannot be used for purchasing hot food items, tobacco, alcohol, or for paying bills or services.

Low-income households, as well as unemployed individuals, can apply for SNAP benefits. There are specific conditions for people aged 18 to 52, such as time restrictions on SNAP benefits and the requirement to seek employment. These restrictions do not apply to pregnant or disabled individuals.

The amount of SNAP benefits a household can receive depends on its size. A single-person household can receive up to $2,005 per month, while a family of five can get up to $4,832. For families with more than five members, an additional $707 per person is provided to ensure the benefits are adequate.

Texas SNAP benefits payment in January: Who will get it?

SNAP payments are made according to the Eligibility Determination Group (EDG) number, which can be found on official SNAP documents. These payments are distributed between the 1st and 28th of each month. This is the payment schedule for benefits for this week in January 2025:
