Nuggets’ Victory Marred by Tragedy: Authorities report that on Tuesday morning, as Nuggets supporters were celebrating the team’s first NBA championship, a gunman opened fire, wounding nine people. The perpetrator, who was injured, was apprehended.
Approximately one mile away from Ball Arena, where the Nuggets defeated the Miami Heat on Monday night, police suspect a struggle between multiple individuals resulted in the discharge of numerous bullets.
The incident occurred at 12:30 a.m., approximately three and a half hours after the conclusion of the game, and according to the Denver Police Department, three of the injured were in critical condition. The suspect (a male) was among the seven injured individuals whose injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.
According to Police Spokesperson Doug Schepman, the circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation. There would be a press conference at 11:30 am.
When asked where the incident occurred, he stated, “It did occur in the area where we had the largest number of people celebrating throughout the night,” but the throng had “significantly diminished” by that time.
The incident occurred in the restaurant- and bar-filled LoDo neighbourhood of downtown Denver. Shepman hypothesised that after the game, many spectators would emerge from nearby watering sites.
The area was cordoned off by police on Tuesday night, and detectives combed the area, discovering evidence markers and what appeared to be party leftovers, including an e-scooter and a green rental cycle. Schepman described the ongoing police investigation as “extensive” and stated that they are currently interrogating potential witnesses.
Heather Burke, a spokesperson for Denver Health Medical Centre, reported that eight patients were admitted, one in critical condition, one in fair condition, and six in outstanding condition. She suggested that anyone with questions regarding the other two victims contact the authorities.
