How does the process of checking work? Does it need a blood test or a trip to the vet?

You will get a cheek test and directions in the mail. It’s easy to get a sample at home in less than a minute by swabbing your dog’s face. No blood is needed. Then, all you have to do is send us the sample in the pre-paid return envelope we give you. In a few weeks, you’ll get the results.

How to Use the Kit and Swab Your Dog

1. Take off the collection tube

Open the kit and take the tube out of its box. You can use the tube as a handle, so don’t take the swab out of the tube.

2. Give your dog a 30–60-second Swab.

Brush the swab along the inside of your dog’s cheek pouch and under his tongue for at least 30 seconds to get spit. Here are some tips to help you get the best sample:

Make sure that spit is all over the swab paper. You might have to swab some dogs for up to sixty seconds!!!

Show your dog a treat but don’t let them eat it. This will make them drool.
Before you check, don’t let your dog eat for 30 minutes.

3. Loosen the cap, put the sample in the tube, and close it up.

Take off the cap and flip the brush over. Put the swab inside the tube for collecting samples.

Do not spill the liquid; it is needed to keep the DNA stable until it can be handled.

Turn the cap until you can’t go any further.

4. MAKE A MIX

Make sure that the cap on top of the sample tube is put on tightly. Flip the tube over and shake it for ten seconds.

5. Turn it on

To turn on your kit, click the button below.

6. Send your sample to set sail

Use the pre-paid envelope that came with your kit to send your sample to Embark. Your sample will be safe for at least 6 months, but who wants to wait that long?
