The committee, however, said on Tuesday that the fee increase had been withdrawn and that the prior rate schedule had been reinstated.

Medical and Dental Admission Begins: A day after changing its earlier decision to drastically raise fees for undergraduate medical courses at 13 medical colleges run by the Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society (GMERS), the Admission Committee for Professional Undergraduate and Postgraduate Medical Educational Courses (ACPUGMEC, ACPPGMEC) began the revised choice-filling round on Wednesday. The committee had to restart the admissions procedure, and soon an updated schedule is anticipated.

According to the committee’s announcement, the choice-filling phase, which began on Wednesday, will end on August 12.

According to the committee’s announcement, a total of 8,113 seats will be filled by choice, including 6,858 MBBS seats in 39 colleges and 1,255 BDS seats in 13 colleges.

Medical and Dental Admission Begins in Gujarat

The state government established a revamped fee structure for seats in the government, management, and NRI quotas in July. A 66.66% hike in the annual fee for government quota seats brought it from Rs 3.30 lakh to Rs 5.50 lakh. The management quota fee increased by 88.88%, from Rs 9 lakh annually to Rs 17 lakh. The annual cost for NRI quota students was hiked from $22,000 to $25,000, a 13.63% increase.

The committee, however, said on Tuesday that the fee increase had been withdrawn and that the prior rate schedule had been reinstated. About 6,000 students who had been given seats in the original round of admissions have had their admissions cancelled as a result of this sudden adjustment.

2,100 medical seats are available in the state through the 13 medical colleges that make up GMERS. According to regulations, the state quota is assigned 75% of the seats, the management quota 10%, and the NRI quota the remaining 15%. There are 1,500 state quota seats, 210 management quota seats, and 315 NRI quota seats available throughout all GMERS medical colleges. Any open seats under the NRI quota are changed into management quota seats.
