Carol Maraj is a well-known playwright, songwriter, and gospel vocalist. Born on December 24, 1959, in Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago, she is a Capricorn. Being the tenth child in her parents’ 11 children, she was raised in a large family and is of Afro- and Indo-Trinidadian origin. She went to St. Agnes Anglican Primary School while growing up in Fort George, St. James.

Maraj then registered at the Tranquility Government Secondary School. Maraj had a difficult upbringing, and she married Robert Maraj a few years after graduating from high school. She gave birth to Minaj after her son. Maraj was employed by the Ministry of Works in St. James, but he soon moved to New York in search of employment.

Career

Maraj moved to New York in 1983, and her husband followed her to the city six months later, but their kids remained in St. James. After Robert secured a position at American Express, the family was able to relocate their children to the United States when Minaj became five years old. Maraj and her spouse purchased a home, which they lost to fire in 1987.

Then, after Lil Wayne signed Minaj to his company after being impressed by her music, Maraj and her kids relocated to Jamaica, Queens. Maraj released her first song, “God’s Been Good,” in April 2014. She went to the B.E.T. Awards the next year with her daughter Minaj, and together they won the Best Female Hip-Hop Artist title. Maraj followed up with the release of “Endless,” her second single, in August 2015, and “What Makes You,” in June 2019.
