Beverly used to perform gospel songs in church when she was younger. At the age of 16, he founded The Blenders, an acapella ensemble, after joining his first band at the age of 13. His father, however, encouraged him to reevaluate his decision since he wanted him to seek a more conventional and lucrative career. Beverly, on the other hand, was unwavering in his resolve to follow his musical dreams. He relocated to the San Francisco region of California in 1970 with his bandmates after forming Raw Soul. They had trouble getting gigs there until they met Marvin Gaye, who introduced Beverly and his band to his contacts in the music business and provided them with the much-needed financial support.

After releasing their debut album, “Maze featuring Frankie Beverly,” in 1976, Beverly’s band Maze—formerly known as Raw Soul—became a chart-topper, selling over five million copies. In 2012, Black Entertainment Television (B.E.T.) presented him with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Anthony, Beverly’s son, is also a musician. Even the audience wears white to his concerts in tribute of him because his characteristic all-white look has become so popular.
