He took out a loan in 1953 to establish “Playboy.” In December, the first edition to feature the iconic actress Marilyn Monroe was published. The first issue of Playboy sold over 50,000 copies. The magazine edited by Hefner promoted a “bon vivant” lifestyle. In 1959 and 1969, he hosted the television programmes “Playboy’s Penthouse” and “Playboy After Dark.” Hefner appeared on numerous television programs, including “The Simpsons” (1993), “Sex and the City” (2000), and “Family Guy” (2007), among others.

Hefner led a rich and fruitful life. He was charitable enough to donate to worthy causes after earning millions from “Playboy.” On September 27, 2017, he perished of sepsis due to an E. coli infection at the Playboy Mansion. Hefner had numerous affairs and was married three times. From 2005 to 2009, some of his lovers were featured on his programme “The Girls Next Door.” He had four offspring who took over his franchise after him.
