American fashion designer Katherine Noel Valentine Brosnahan Spade was unique due to her skill set. She was of Irish origin and was born in Kansas City, Missouri. Spade studied journalism at Arizona State University, where she earned her degree in 1985.

Career

Spade began her career at “Mademoiselle” magazine in 1986 as an accessories editor. In 1991, she resigned from her position as senior fashion editor to start her own company. In January 1993, she and her ex-boyfriend Andy Spade established Kate Spade New York. The company quickly gained popularity in the 1990s as an accessory, with many people owning a Kate Spade purse. It quickly grew beyond selling only handbags to include apparel, stationery, jewelry, shoes, eyewear, and fragrances.

In 1996, Spade established her first store in the SoHo neighborhood of Manhattan. She then expanded to develop Jack Spade, a menswear line, and Kate Spade Saturday, which sold more casual clothing. Both projects were abandoned in 2015. When Spade sold Neiman Marcus Group 56% of her company in 1999, the venture expanded internationally. In addition to opening a store in Japan, Kate Spade At Home introduced a home collection brand in 2004. Spade sold Neiman Marcus the remaining 44% of her business in 2006, and Neiman Marcus then sold the label to Liz Claiborne Inc. before Coach, Inc. eventually bought it.

After taking a break to care for her family, Spade returned in 2016 to start the upscale handbag and shoe brand Frances Valentine. Spade, a prosperous design magnate, enjoyed the benefits of her success with her loved ones. After leading a secluded life, she wed Andy Spade in 1994. 2005 saw the couple’s daughter’s birth. Spade committed suicide and was discovered dead in her residence on June 5, 2018. Her husband, kids, and other friends all remember her.
