Along with five other siblings, he was raised alongside his brother Bobby Pacquiao, a well-known boxer and professional fighter.

Career

In 1990, when he was 12 years old, his uncle got him interested in boxing. He started boxing in General Santos and eventually started going up against more experienced fighters. At the age of fifteen, he was deemed the best junior boxer in the Philippines. Later, in early January 1996, he relocated to Manila to make his junior flyweight professional debut. Pacquiao won his first significant title—the flyweight championship—at the age of 19.

He currently owns six world records listed in the Guinness Book. In boxing, he has won the majority of world titles across various weight classes.

In 2008, he became the first non-athlete to represent the Philippines at the Olympics by carrying the national team’s flag. Manny started running for the Philippine House of Representatives in 2007, but incumbent Representative Darlene Antonino-Custodio won the race. Later, in May 2010, Pacquiao ran for office once more and won a seat in the Philippine House of Representatives during the country’s 15th Congress.

In 2013, he was elected again. With more than 16 million votes, Pacquiao defeated Senator Robert Jaworski to win the senatorial election on May 19, 2016. Following the resignation of Koko Pimentel, the PDP-Laban’s president, he took over as acting president in December 2020. Pacquiao submitted the bill to establish the Philippine Boxing and Combat Sports Commission in May of 2021.

Senator Pia Cayetano, as she did during the COVID-19 pandemic, criticized it nonetheless. In a social media post on September 29, 2021, Pacquiao declared his retirement from boxing to concentrate on his political career. On May 10, 1993, Pacquiao and Jinkee tied the knot.
