Marcus played NCAA basketball for Central Florida University. During his time at college, he amassed 1152 points. Marcus scored a career-high 28 points against the University of West Florida in the season opener for UCF in 2010–11. He shot 8–11 from the field and 5–7 from three-point range.

In the same year, he led his team with 18 points in a victory over 16th-ranked Florida. During his college career, he was named to the 2010 C-USA All-Freshman Team and the 2011 C-USA Second Team. In 2012, during Marcus’s third year at the University of Central Florida, he took a break from basketball. However, in 2013 he graduated from college with a degree in hospitality management.

Marcus created Trophy Room, a Jordan-inspired shoe store modelled after Michael Jordan’s Trophy Room in the Jordan family home, which houses a collection of the rarest and most unique Air Jordans, upon his 2016 retirement from basketball. In addition to working with well-known brands such as Nike and Upper Deck Card Company, Marcus carries a large selection of Nike and Jordan merchandise.

Adidas Contract

During his first game with The Knights, Marcus made the most significant UCF-related headlines. During his freshman year at UCF, he wore Air Jordans to a preseason game played by an Adidas-sponsored team. Due to Marcus’s actions, Adidas terminated the contract, costing the university approximately $3 million in sponsorship revenue.

In an interview years later with Complex, the former student-athlete stated, “They told me during my visit that I would be able to wear Jordans without any issues.”

Marcus Jordan Controversy

Marcus was arrested in Omaha in 2012 for disorderly conduct after he fought two women in the hotel driveway early in the morning. When the hotel staff was unable to stop Marcus from drinking, they called the police for assistance. The same night he was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, driving under the influence, and causing a disturbance, he was released. Later, Marcus confessed to disturbing the peace and paid a $250 fine and court costs.
