Minatozaki Sana Biography:

Early Life

On December 29, 1996, Minatozaki Sana was born in Tennoji-ku, Osaka, Japan. Her parents only have her as a youngster. Girls’ Generation and KARA’s increasing success in Japan is largely responsible for Minatozaki’s initial interest in K-pop. She trained at the singing and dancing studio EXILE Professional Gym in Osaka from 2009 until the beginning of 2012. Many Japanese idols are known to train there. The EXILE tribe member Nakatsuka Yuta of Generations was her previous dancing instructor.

When Minatozaki was 14 years old in 2011 whilst shopping with her pals at the Osaka Namba Walk, she was noticed by JYP Entertainment. She was invited to the 2011 JYP Japan Audition by the scouts. During the audition, Minatozaki sang the famous song “Mr. Taxi” by Girls’ Generation. Minatozaki relocated to South Korea after receiving her middle school diploma in March 2012, and on April 13, 2012, she started her trainee years with JYP.

Career

When Minatozaki starred in the 2014 music videos for Lee Jun-ho’s “Feel” and GOT7’s “A,” she started to gain notice from the general audience. Minatozaki was revealed as one of the nine members of JYP’s newest girl group, TWICE, after the show.

She was selected together with eight other people: Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu. With the release of their EP “The Story Begins” and its lead single “Like Ooh-Ahh,” the group made their debut in October 2015. In 2016, Minatozaki made a quick trip back to Japan to appear for the University Entrance Qualifying Exam. As the most popular idol in South Korea, she came in at number 17 on Gallup Korea’s annual music poll in 2018.

This is the highest ranking a Japanese person has ever achieved in a survey of this kind. A solo single including Minatozaki’s rendition of the 2020 song “Sotsugyou” by the Japanese band Kobukuro was released in February 2021. She is the first member of TWICE to release a solo song. The next month, Minatozaki and Kobukuro collaborated to release an additional version of “Sotsugyou.” In April 2021, her photobook “Yes, I am Sana” was released.

Following her TWICE debut, Minatozaki has collaborated with different artists on multiple music videos. In 2016, Park Jin-young’s “Fire” featured her alongside Park Jimin, Steven Yeun, and Conan O’Brien. Additionally, she collaborated with Lee Jun-ho on his “Instant Love” music video from 2017.
