Early Life

On December 22, 1954, Ray Liotta was born in Newark, New Jersey, to single parents who placed him up for adoption. Alfred and Mary, who were his foster parents, adopted him when he was just six months old. Despite having little interest in going to college, he enrolled at the University of Miami to study acting.

Career

Liotta debuted as an actor in the 1978–1981 soap opera “Another World,” where he played Joey Perrini. Owing to the show’s popularity, he was cast in 20 more television series and television-produced films. Liotta played a bitter ex-husband opposite Melanie Griffith and Jeff Daniels in the 1986 movie “Something Wild.” He earned a great deal of excellent reviews for his on-screen portrayal of the stressful character in this film. After that, he starred in the 1989 movie “Field of Dreams” as Shoeless Joe Jackson. Following this picture, he played tough police officers and mob boss parts for the rest of the 1990s, including Henry Hill in Scorsese’s 1992 film “Goodfellas” and an insane cop in his 1993 picture “Unlawful Entry.”

His portrayal of Harry Collins, a police officer and compulsive gambler, in the 1998 film “Phoenix,” earned him a lot of favorable reviews. He was regarded as one of the busiest and most bankable performers of his generation in the 2000s, thanks to his well-known roles in the films “Blow” and “Identity.” Liotta starred in the 2013 film “The Place Beyond the Pines” alongside Bradley Cooper, Ryan Gosling, and Eva Mendes.
