IAS Kanishak Kataria shares tips for UPSC preparation, know about him

Kanishk Kataria, an IAS from the 2018 batch, got AIR 1 in his first UPSC attempt.

IAS Kanishka Kataria is also an IIT Bombay alumnus, having received the 44th rank in the IIT JEE. He passed the UPSC at the age of 26. His first rank came in the entire country. Kanishak Kataria received 1121 points out of a possible 2025 points in the UPSC exam. IAS Kanishk Kataria is currently posted in Rajasthan as SDO, Ramganj Mandi, Kota.

IAS Kanishk is from Jaipur, Rajasthan. He comes from a civil service family. His father and uncle are both in the military.

According to reports, Kanishk worked as a software engineer for Samsung in South Korea after graduating from IIT Bombay. However, he wanted to contribute to India’s development from the start, so he began preparing for the UPSC.

Kanishk had prepared for UPSC with these considerations in mind.

Kanishk Kataria attended coaching in Delhi for 7 to 8 months before returning home to study on his own. He completed much of his preparation through self-study. Kanishk stated in the interview that he completely disconnected from social media in order to focus on the preparation. He also stated that he did not anticipate receiving AIR 1.

Kanishk’s internal drive

According to Kanishk, UPSC is a year-long process, so consistent motivation is required to prepare consistently for the IAS exam. To keep motivation high, one must ask himself, “Why do you want to be an IAS officer?” Motivation should come from within, not from without. Always be upbeat.

Don’t get sidetracked

IAS Kanishk also stressed that aspirants should not be distracted by the noise and should concentrate on the strategy they devised for themselves. Many things can irritate you. Fear of failure can also haunt you at times, but have faith in yourself.

Consider this when selecting an optional subject.

Kanishk stated, “When selecting an optional subject, keep in mind how much interest they have in that subject.” Mathematics was his elective subject. He advised candidates to thoroughly research the subject for which they intend to take the IAS exam. The optional subject should be chosen in such a way that it does not feel burdensome.
