Kota suicides: New criteria for coaching institutes include appointing counsellors and providing helplines

According to the new plan, the local police would visit coaching institutes and dormitories to interact with students. According to a report by IANS, efforts will be made to address the problems facing pupils.

After three children who were receiving coaching in the Kota region of Rajasthan committed suicide in two separate incidences, the administration is now taking steps to assist youngsters. The administration has incorporated police patrols and offered phone numbers for assistance. According to the new plan, the local police would visit coaching institutes and dormitories to interact with students. According to a report by IANS, efforts will be made to address the problems facing pupils.

The Kota police have distributed hotline numbers in three areas with police stations and will conduct nightly foot patrols. Against any antisocial element, action will be taken, and Abhya Police/District Special Branch/District Special Team Jawans will patrol the coaching centre locations.

Wednesday, December 14th, the district collector convened a meeting in which the guidelines to be followed were discussed. Representatives of all dormitories, administrative offices, and coaching institutes, as well as the city’s police chief, attended the meeting. Several decisions were made about the current topic.

For the inspection of coaching institutes, administrative service officers have been appointed and tasked with reporting infractions each month to a district-level committee. According to IANS, the administrative service officials will also ensure that the requirements are observed in the coaching institutes.

It has been determined that no more than 100 pupils should be admitted in a single class, and that crucial phone numbers, such as those for the helpline, should be posted outside each coaching centre. Counsellors in coaching institutions should be selected on the basis of merit.

Other initiatives include organising weekly sports tournaments and providing parents with information about fields other than medicine and information technology at the time of admission. Students should receive a weekly holiday, and every effort should be made to avoid giving tests every other day.

If a student is chronically missing or under extreme stress, the tutoring centre is responsible for informing the local police station. According to a report by IANS, biometric systems should be required in coaching centres, and institutes should be held accountable for missing students.
