About Jamia Millia Islamia

Jamia Millia Islamia, an institution originally established at Aligarh in United Provinces, India in 1920 became a Central University by an act of the Indian Parliament in 1988.

Here is how QS World University Rankings has introduced Jamia Millia Islamia:

The story of its growth from a small institution in the pre-independence India to a central university located in New Delhi—offering integrated education from nursery to research in specialized areas—is a saga of dedication, conviction and vision of a people who worked against all odds and saw it growing step by step.

They “built up the Jamia Millia stone by stone and sacrifice by sacrifice,” said Sarojini Naidu, the nightingale of India.

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on the other hand has ranked among 801-1000 best varsities in the world. Like Jamia, AMU too has improved its India ranking to 31 from last year’s 33.

AMU BRICS ranking is 138 and QS WUR Subject Ranking is 301-350. The QS World University Rankings says Research Output of the AMU is “High”.

About Aligarh Muslim University

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is a public central university, originally established by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan and his friends as Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College in 1875. The Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College became Aligarh Muslim University in 1920.

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) occupies a unique position amongst universities and institutions of higher learning in the country. It was established in 1920, and evolved out of the Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College (MAO College) which was set up in 1877 by the great visionary and social reformer, Sir Syed Ahmad khan.

From its very inception, it has kept its door open to the members of all communities and from all corners of the country and the world. The Aligarh Muslim University is the realization of a vision which was broad, far- reaching and realistic.
