Corona Outbreak: AMU suspends classes till Mar 31 due to COVID-19

Aligarh: The entrance tests for admissions to Class VI and IX in Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) schools, scheduled to be held on March 22 and March 29 have been postponed and classes will remain suspended in the University and its Off-Campus centres till March 31 in line with the advisory issued by the Ministry of Health, Government of India in the wake of COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) pandemic.

The students are advised to go home if they want. This was decided in a consultative meeting of the deans of faculties, principals of colleges, provosts of residential halls and other functionaries under the chairmanship of AMU Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor today.

Applicants for Class VI and IX entrance tests are advised to regularly visit the University website, www.amucontrollerexams.com for updates.

However, all examinations of the University and schools will be held as per schedule and the students appearing for exams will sit at a distance of one meter from each other.

In the meeting, it was also decided to give a paid leave of 14 days for self isolation at home to the students and staff, who have recently returned from abroad. They are advised to work from home.

The coaching classes within the Campus will also remain suspended.

The Dean, Students’ Welfare (DSW), Prof Mujahid Beg has advised that the number of students gathering for lunch and dinner at dining halls to be reduced to 50 at a time and to increase the distance between chairs. The duration of dining hall facilities during lunch/dinner hours will be expanded.

The DSW further announced that each residential hall will be provided with two sets of sanitizers and that the students and staff members are encouraged to regularly wash hands with soap. Cooks in the kitchens of the dining halls have been ordered to use hand gloves, caps and aprons to maintain hygiene and students are advised not to go outside their residential halls and to avoid crowded places.
