Organize a coordinating family photo shoot or use your creative side to create personalized cards that you can give to dear ones.

Christmas Card Day 2023: Ho ho ho! And to everyone, a happy Christmas Card Day on December 9! It’s the time of year to send out good vibes and happy wishes, so gather up a box of cards, a recent family photo, or even an elegantly created e-card and start writing! Since Christmas cards have been around for centuries, there’s never been a better moment to send them out and wish your loved ones luck while updating them on your life.

Christmas Card Day 2023: History

Sending Christmas cards to friends and family, no matter how far away, has become a customary and well-liked (or perhaps even required by the family). It’s a way to say, “Happy holidays, we’re thinking of you, and look how great we’re doing!” They serve as a means of performing an annual catch-up, checking in on the children’s growth and significant life changes that so-and-so has made. Furthermore, even though they now seem normal, that wasn’t always the case.

To get more people to use the brand-new British postal system, artist John Horsley and British civil service member Sir Henry Cole came up with the modern idea of the Christmas card in 1843. The price of their first card was one shilling, or roughly twenty-four cents. Because of the development of the printing press, Christmas card sending had become a widespread custom in Britain by the 1860s.

Inevitably, Christmas cards made their way to the United States in the 1840s, right around the time they were printed. But due to the high cost of production, they remained a stagnant practice until 1875, when German printer Louis Prang began producing the cards in large quantities, which made them reasonably priced. But the practice didn’t really take off in the United States until the Hall brothers opened Hallmark in the early 20th century.

Christmas cards are now a significant component of the celebration. And your Christmas cards will make their recipients happy, whether you take a family photo or make one with construction paper, glue, and glitter.

Ideas For Handmazing Christmas Card Day

Create and distribute your holiday cards.

Boxed cards—who needs them anyway? You might give and receive the same card! Spend some time with scissors, glue, and pens to create a truly heartfelt card for your loved ones, instead of wasting money on greeting cards from the department store.

Display your collection of favored cards.

Why not make use of the lovely or heartfelt Christmas cards that many of us have saved over the years? Put your cards from this year and past years on display for everyone to see by getting a card holder, a corkboard, pushpins, or even fridge magnets! Heck, you could even weave them into a festive garland to honor the occasion.

Compose notes of gratitude for your holiday cards.

For Christmas gifts, everyone writes thank you notes, but what about Christmas cards? Why not write your childhood friend or great-aunt a note saying, “Thank you for thinking of me,” if you were overjoyed to hear from them?
