Global Community Engagement Day History

The goal of Global Community Engagement Day is to raise awareness of the importance of people working together to solve problems and ideas in the community and improve everyone’s quality of life! There is an intriguing backstory to the creation of Global Community Engagement Day. Engage 2 Act is the group that initiated the Global Community Engagement Day. It is one of the networks of community engagement practitioners from Australia and around the world that is expanding the fastest. “Engage 2 Act is a collective of individuals committed to progressing high-quality community engagement practice,” reads their LinkedIn page.

In Southern Australia, it all began with a tiny group. Andrew Coulson, a former board member of the organization, believed that community participation should have its day, just like other ridiculous items like socks and doughnuts have their special days of celebration. He thus got the entire team to embrace this concept. The members of the Engage 2 Act team started a survey in December 2017 using social media. They posed a question to their social media followers: Who is the most inspirational community involvement leader you have ever met? The poll’s most popular voter, Wendy Sarkissian, had her birthday, January 28, declared as Global Community Engagement Day.

Today, let’s give thanks to all of the fantastic community organizations, volunteers, and customers that we have encountered over the years and who help to make our neighborhood a wonderful place to live. I salute everyone who puts forth great effort to maintain the well-being and happiness of our communities via involvement.
