International Scrapbooking Industry Day is celebrated annually on March 4, and we plan to celebrate in the best way possible: by revisiting old memories and creating new ones within the pages of our scrapbooks! Are you aware that happy memories are potent and can aid in the battle against depression and loneliness? This is why we value scrapbooks and, by extension, International Scrapbooking Industry Day.
Memories are a crucial aspect of human existence. They shape identity, perception, relationships, personal growth, and personal development. Events, locations, objects, names, abstract emotions, and other stimuli can trigger these memories at various times, eliciting distinct responses. It is therefore not surprising that psychologists have discovered that happy memories can aid in the fight against depression and loneliness, as well as realign one with the hopes of achieving past-set goals for the future.
The origins of scrapbooking can be traced back to the first century A.D. and the existence of commonplace books. Commonplace books resembled scrapbooks in that they contained the owner’s scribblings and writings, such as poems, proverbs, Bible verses, axioms, notes, recipes, formulas, and weights, among other things. Commonplace books were maintained by scholars, students, writers, and readers to keep up with academic work, whereas anyone can own a scrapbook.
In the 1900s, scrapbooking grew in popularity among college women who used it to record their lives and as memorabilia; from there, it became a fun way for everyone, male, female, young, and old, to preserve memories. Scrapbooks contain a plethora of cherished emotions, including photographs of vacations, first love letters, a first plane ticket to a desired vacation, poetry, photographs of goofy, joyful moments with friends and family, artworks, and pressed flowers.
