In 800 B.C., the mule most likely arrived in Asia Minor. Mule transportation was prevalent in ancient Rome, accommodating both passengers and cargo. The Marius Mules were so renowned for their strength and stamina that they were given the moniker ‘Marius’ when General Marius trained his troops to transport enormous loads of ammunition.

In an effort to colonize the Americas after discovering an alternate route to India, Christopher Columbus introduced mules to the region.
