Microsoft declared May 22 National Solitaire Day in 2018 in recognition of the game’s popularity. The purpose of this day is to honour the card game that has governed supreme for more than three decades by holding massive celebrations. In 2020, National Solitaire Day eclipsed the record for the number of solitaire games played in a single day, which had stood since 2000. Microsoft’s other official commemorations of the event include special surprises for the players, a double XP bonus in the game on Windows and mobile devices, and video tributes to supporters. 2019 also saw the induction of patience into the Video Game Hall of Fame.
