On January 13th, Poetry Break Day honors the Mesopotamian Epic of Gilgamesh, the oldest poetic work. People create their own poetry and read poems from favorite poets, celebrating the poet within us and allowing non-poets to assume responsibilities.

The 13th of January is Poetry Break Day, and we are dedicated to assisting you with a fantastic celebration. The Mesopotamian Epic Of Gilgamesh is regarded as the oldest poetic work of all time. In honor of Poetry Break Day, people create their own poetry and read poems written by their favorite poets. This day is a celebration of the poet within us. While some may assert that this is a day when poets take a break from their duties and non-poets assume their responsibilities, no evidence supports this assertion. However, we can all agree that this day honors poetry.

HISTORY OF POETRY BREAK DAY

Other poems claim to be the first ever written, but the majority of scholars believe that the Mesopotamian “Epic of Gilgamesh,” which tells the account of Noah and the ark, holds that distinction. This poetry is thought to be approximately 4,000 years old. Poetry has been discovered in nearly all ancient civilizations, including those of Africa, the Indus Valley, and parts of Sumer. These poems were composed as hymns and songs, and they frequently featured religious stories and occasionally fiction. About Hinduism, the Rigveda is one of the oldest collections of poetry; it was composed in 2000 B.C.

Aristotle later, about 350 B.C., classified poetry as epic, comedic, and tragic. In following ages, poetry became extremely popular among the Middle Eastern populace. Poetry gained to popularity in Europe, particularly during the Renaissance. In those days, only the wealthy and the elite could afford to read poetry.

Poets such as Alfred Lord Tennyson and Robert Browning rose to popularity during the 19th century when modern poetry flourished. Poets such as Thomas Stearns Eliot and Robert Frost lived in the 20th century. Poets such as Virginia Woolf, who gave poetry a modern touch, contributed to the evolution of the literary art.

Poetry was honoured with the creation of Poetry Break Day. People began commemorating this day by composing verses for their loved ones or by reading the works of their favourite poets. Some go deeply into the biographies of their favourite poets to discover what motivated them to produce such beautiful lines.
