National Safe Motherhood Day 2022: Theme, objective, facts

The theme for this year’s National Safe Motherhood Day is to remain at home amid coronavirus and protect mother and infant safe from coronavirus.

National Safe Motherhood Day is marked every year on April 11. The objective of this day is to raise awareness about the significance of pregnant women having sufficient access to medical care during their pregnancy, childbirth, and later services. The White Ribbon Alliance India (WRAI) started the campaign.

India used to be regarded as one of the most dangerous countries in the world to give birth in as it was responsible for 15 percent of all maternal deaths worldwide. Poor prenatal care in India resulted in the deaths of 44,000 women. The Indian government acted on WRAI’s recommendation and declared April 11 as National Safe Motherhood Day, with the intention of taking urgent action.

National Safe Motherhood Day 2022: Theme

The theme for this year’s National Safe Motherhood Day is to remain at home amid coronavirus and protect mother and infant safe from coronavirus. Every year, members of the White Ribbon Alliance India (WRAI) choose a theme, and they engage in a variety of activities, raise awareness, and organize large-scale campaigns across the country.

National Safe Motherhood Day 2022: Objective

The purpose of these initiatives is to ensure that every woman has the right to life and that she is able to survive pregnancy and childbirth. This day also promotes awareness about the importance of preventing child marriages, as child marriage can be an indirect cause of maternal death. Every woman has the right to adequate nutrition and appropriate healthcare services during and after pregnancy and childbirth.

National Safe Motherhood Day 2022: Important Facts

  • Every day, over 830 women die from preventable diseases associated with pregnancy and childbirth.
  • The majority of maternal deaths occur in underdeveloped countries.
  • Maternal mortality is higher in women who live in rural areas and in impoverished communities.
  • Pregnancy problems and death are more common in young adolescents than in women.
  • Between 1990 and 2015, maternal mortality fell by around 44 percent globally.
