10 Worst States for Dental Care: Florida Ranks Last Among them!

Florida ranks among the top 15 healthiest states in terms of overall health, despite being ranked among the top 10 worst states for dental care.

10 Worst States for Dental Care: A national statistics list recently ranked Florida as one of the states with the worst dental health in the country. However, in a separate evaluation that employed distinct metrics to identify the states with the highest overall health, Florida also managed to secure a position among the top 15 healthiest states.

A prior study provides support for the ranking list that assigns Florida a low position in terms of dental health. According to the findings of a 2023 study by the CareQuest Institute for Oral Health, “Florida had the highest rate of non-traumatic dental emergency room visits for children aged 14 and below in 2020 among the thirteen states they tracked, 26.7 per 10,000 people,” USA TODAY Network-Florida reported.

Florida’s position on WalletHub’s list of the least dentally healthy states and Forbes Advisor’s list of the healthiest states, along with an explanation of why, are detailed below.

Florida, according to a study by WalletHub, is the tenth worst state in the nation for dental health, trailing only Alabama and Kentucky. Illinois received the highest ranking for dental health.

• Percentage of adults who visited the dentist within the previous year ranked 42nd

• Dental treatment expenses on the 29th

• Dentists per capita rank 22nd

• 25th: Consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages

• Proportion of adults with poor or middling oral health is 49%.

Which state in the United States provides the finest healthcare?

Forbes Advisor used twenty-one metrics to determine the overall healthiest state. All metrics were classified into one of the following three categories: prevalence and risk factors for disease, substance addiction and lifestyle choices, and health outlook.

Forbes utilized mortality rates per 100,000 state residents for a variety of conditions, including cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, kidney disease, stroke, and high blood pressure.

Additionally, Forbes evaluated factors such as life expectancy, alcohol-related fatalities per 100,000 residents, the percentage of adult smokers at any given time, and the number of adults who disclosed illicit drug or opioid use within the previous month in each state.

According to a combination of data from WalletHub and Forbes, Floridians are more conscientious of their overall health than of their dental hygiene.

Forbes ranked Florida as the twelfth-healthiest jurisdiction in the United States. Overall, Hawaii was ranked as the healthiest state.
