2.Mron Sonntag, a druggist from Plainfield, Illinois, invented the cuisine in 1890 in response to a customer’s request for something unique. Since Sonntag translates to Sunday in German, he named it the “sonntag” after himself. The name was subsequently rendered “sundae.”
3. On April 3, 1892 (a Sunday), in Ithaca, New York, John M. Scott, a minister, and Chester Platt, co-owner of a pharmacy, invented the first sundae. Platt coated ice cream dishes with cherry syrup and candied cherries.
