The Background of Sauvignon Blanc Day

Since primordial times, wine has been a part of humanity and its traditions. It is estimated that the first alcohol was produced in China around 7000 BCE. Traditionally, this beverage was made from fermented grapes, which can ferment in a keg for several years until the ideal blend is achieved. There are numerous wine grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, and Chardonnay. Wine can also be made from fermented honey, starch, and other fruits such as pears and cherries.

Not only was wine an essential beverage to ancient people due to its antioxidant properties, but because water at the time was not properly treated, wine was often the primary beverage in ancient households. This beverage has religious significance as well. In Christianity, for instance, wine is regarded as a symbolic representation of Christ’s blood. In accordance with Catholic tradition, the congregation consumes wine with the Host at every Sunday Mass in remembrance of Christ’s blood and body.

Likewise, wine sampling has long been a part of the culture. Around the fourteenth century, tasters in Europe developed experimental techniques. Theories about how humans taste and smell have aided tasters in recognising various grapes, as well as regions and prices of specific wine bottles.
