National Tackle Kids Cancer Day 2023: Date, History, Facts about Stem Cell Therapy

Each year, over 15,000 adolescents are diagnosed with cancer, according to estimates. To put this number in perspective, 1 in 285 adolescents in the United States are diagnosed with cancer before the age of 20.

National Tackle Kids Cancer Day is observed annually on September 15 to bring attention to the critical need for paediatric cancer fundraising. Despite the increasing incidence of childhood cancer, only 4% of federal expenditure is allocated to paediatric cancer research. Tackle Kids Cancer has raised $10 million from over 7,000 supporters under the stewardship of Hackensack University Medical Centre Foundation. Children’s Cancer Institute invests the proceeds in innovative research and survivor rehabilitation programmes. By observing the day and raising awareness about the cause, good Samaritans have the opportunity to participate in over a dozen clinical trials and neuro-oncology programmes designed to combat childhood cancer.

The background of National Tackle Kids Cancer Day

Each year, over 15,000 adolescents are diagnosed with cancer, according to estimates. To put this number in perspective, 1 in 285 adolescents in the United States are diagnosed with cancer before the age of 20. Unfortunately, the federal government’s efforts to discover a cure have fallen short of the magnitude of the crisis.

Hackensack Meridian Health established Tackle Kids Cancer in September 2015 in response to deteriorating statistics and a lack of respite. Since then, it has raised funds to support innovative paediatric cancer research initiatives. Hackensack University Medical Centre Foundation established National Tackle Kids Cancer Day in 2017 to further raise awareness about the dearth of medical and financial infrastructure in paediatric cancer research, citing the success of the programme.

Children who survive cancer face a difficult future. This is why Tackle Kids Cancer also funds the Cure and Beyond Programme, which assists cancer survivors in reintegrating into society.

5 INCREDIBLE FACTS ABOUT STEM CELL THERAPY

Stem cell therapy is ineffective against cancer, but it aids in the reproduction of healthy stem cells after radiation therapy.

The rate of a patient’s recovery is proportional to the rate at which cells proliferate to repair damaged tissue.

A patient can be healed using healthy stem cells extracted from their body.

A person progressively loses stem cells, which slows the rate of healing as they age.

Stem cell therapy has practically no adverse effects.
