The date is September 5, so National Be Late for Something Day has arrived! The purpose of this nontraditional holiday is to highlight the positive aspects of procrastination. You no longer need to capitulate to the stress of a hectic schedule because you have the perfect excuse to be fashionably late. The holiday emphasises the need to calm down our hectic modern lifestyle. It urges everyone to concentrate on the things we never have time to enjoy or appreciate. For some, this may mean skipping a “important” meeting to spend time with family. It makes no difference what your motivations are, so long as you benefit from the additional leisure.

The background of National Be Late for Something Day

The precise year of creation is debatable, but the significance of the holiday cannot be denied. There are individuals who excel at procrastination and appear incapable of being on time. This behaviour, which is ordinarily deemed unacceptable, has been given a holiday-specific twist.

National Be Late for Something Day was established by the Procrastinators Club of America to promote tardiness’ benefits. The committee of the club, which was founded by Les Waas in 1956, shortly designated September 5 as the official Be Late for Something Day. Since then, the organisation has been active in the United States, protesting the War of 1812 in 1966. The Betsy Ross Bridge in Philadelphia received the “Award to Come Later” title due to its delayed inauguration.

Be Late for Something Day was yet another valiant effort on their part to convey an essential message. Due to the immense amount of strain placed on our shoulders in a constantly changing world, we all deserve a break from time to time. Be Late for Something Day has inspired many individuals to reevaluate their agendas. Taking a step back may reveal that the situation is not as dire as you initially believed.
