The concept can be traced to the writings of David Hume from the eighteenth century. He suggested that it is crucial to respect and admire oneself because it functions as a motivating factor.
In the 1970s, self-esteem was recognised as a crucial factor in the academic performance of students and the general contentment of adolescents.
Now, more than ever, it is essential for individuals to develop positive self-relationships. National Compliment Your Mirror Day is an example of such a day.
