Putting on Your Own Shoes Day 2023: Every year on December 6, we celebrate Put on Your Own Shoes Day. The originator has allowed us to explore our imaginations freely because the beginnings are not entirely understood. This day could be interpreted as a metaphor for showing off your skills or helping a little child put on shoes. The allure is that the choice is yours.
Since prehistoric times, shoes have been a part of the human wardrobe. The world’s oldest intact shoe, which dates back to 5000 years, was actually found in Armenia. Rather from being worn for comfort and style, shoes were worn for utilitarian purposes in the past, such as shielding the feet from the weather. Actually, shoes were not produced especially for the left and right foot until the 1800s. Since then, there have been significant changes to footwear over the ages.
The original sandals, which were stretched and fastened at the end of the foot, originated in ancient Egypt and were made of palm leaves, papyrus fiber, and raw leather. Initially, only pharaohs and priests wore sandals, but later on, all ancient Egyptians did, and the variety of colors they came in represented the various social classes.
European monarchs frequently flaunted their dominance during the Renaissance by donning shoes with heels as high as thirty centimeters. They were able to stroll through puddles with ease as a result. These were the original instances of contemporary platform shoes. France’s King Louis XIV was a major force behind the rise in popularity of high heels. Many fashion historians still refer to men’s high heels as French shoes.
It wasn’t until the baroque era, when a person’s shoe design served as a major social class signal, that footwear became fully fashionable. Their class increases with the height of their heels. Anyone who was strolling around barefoot was most likely not doing well.
The Industrial Revolution saw the largest increase in the production of shoes. North American and British inventors and artisans developed a sewing machine for shoes, after which they began producing fabric shoes in large quantities.
Jan Ernst Matzeliger created a shoemaking method that made it possible to produce about 700 pairs of shoes each day. Everyone could now afford shoes, and around the middle of the 1800s, left and right shoe sizes were finally established!
