In January 2021, Reuters was able to confirm Tarrio’s status as an informant after obtaining relevant court documents and speaking with investigators and attorneys working on the case.

Former Proud Boys commander Enrique Tarrio was sentenced to 22 years in prison on September 5, 2023, for his participation in the following events on January 6, 2021, at the U.S. Capitol.

Enrique Tarrio has engaged in a variety of endeavours throughout his career. He began his career as a poultry farmer in a small village in northern Florida before relocating to Miami and establishing his own company.

Tarrio founded businesses that provide GPS tracking services and security system installation for businesses. In addition, he operates the website 1776 Merchandise, where he sells controversial right-wing merchandise.

He also supported the political goals of the late president by serving as the Florida state director for Latinos for Trump. Tarrio’s career took a contentious turn when he became the commander of the far-right group Proud Boys.

Under his leadership, the Proud Boys participated in nationwide demonstrations, protests, and confrontations with left-wing organisations. There were numerous arrests and legal issues as a result of Tarrio’s participation in these actions.

In addition, he was criticised for working as an FBI informant, which ultimately led to his resignation as leader of the Proud Boys in August 2021. Despite controversy that has surrounded his career, Tarrio has maintained a prominent position in American politics and activism. His affiliation with right-wing movements and views is well-known.
