North Dakota state senator Doug Larsen: Along with his wife and two children, North Dakota state senator Doug Larsen died in a plane accident in Utah.

Monday’s email from Republican Senate Majority Leader David Hogue to his colleagues confirmed Doug Larsen’s passing.

“Senator Doug Larsen, his wife Amy, and their two young children died in a plane crash last evening in Utah,” Hogue wrote in his email. “They were visiting family in Scottsdale and returning home. They stopped to refuel in Utah. I’m not sure where the bereavement starts with such a tragedy, but I think it starts with prayers for the grandparents, surviving stepchild of Senator Larsen, and extended family of Doug and Amy. Hold your family close today.”

The single-engine Piper plummeted shortly after takeoff from Canyonlands Airfield on Sunday evening, 15 miles north of Moab, according to a Facebook post by the Grand County Sheriff’s Department. The sheriff’s office reports that all four persons aboard the plane were killed.

The National Transportation Safety Board stated in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that it was investigating the incident.

What did Doug Larsen do?

Larsen was a Republican lawmaker who was elected to the North Dakota Senate for the first time in 2020. His district includes Mandan, the metropolis located west of Bismarck across the Missouri River from Mandan. Larsen presided over a Senate committee responsible for industry and business legislation.

Additionally, he served as a lieutenant colonel in the North Dakota National Guard. In addition, he was also a business owner along with his wife, Amy.

Larsen has an additional stepchild who was not on the flight.
