American Airlines and Citi are refreshing the Citi / AAdvantage Executive Mastercard with new travel perks, bigger statement credits, more Loyalty Points, and a higher annual fee starting August 23.
Citi / AAdvantage Executive Mastercard Change: American Airlines and Citi are giving their top premium credit card a big makeover. The card is the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard®, and the new version starts on Aug. 23. The annual fee for new cardmembers will go up to $695 from $595. American and Citi say the card could now offer up to $2,300 in yearly value, while still keeping its main perk, an Admirals Club® membership with unlimited access. The card will also get new World Legend Mastercard branding.
This update is meant to make the card more useful beyond just lounge access. It now tries to work more like a full premium travel card. That means more credits, more ways to earn AAdvantage® miles, and more Loyalty Points too. The change also follows a bigger trend in the premium card world, where cards now come with many add-on perks instead of just one main benefit.
New America 250 Social Security Cards: Last Date, Eligibility and Everything Parents Need to Know
John LaCosta, Citi’s Head of Partnership Cards and Development for U.S. Consumer Cards, said, “There’s a constant evolution of expectations for premium travelers.” He added, “This card, being at the premium end of our portfolio, has to continue to evolve to meet those expectations.”
The refreshed card comes with a long list of new benefits. It will now offer up to $500 each year for American Airlines Vacations. This credit is split into two parts, with up to $250 from Jan. 1 through June 30 and up to $250 from July 1 through Dec. 31. The card will also give up to $100 back each year on eligible inflight and Admirals Club purchases. Lyft credits are going up too, from up to $120 a year to up to $180 a year, after three eligible rides in a month.
The earning rate on eligible AAdvantage Hotels and AAdvantage Cars bookings is also getting better. It will rise from 10 AAdvantage miles per dollar to 12 AAdvantage miles per dollar. On top of that, Loyalty Point bonuses are being doubled. Cardmembers can now earn up to 40,000 Loyalty Points instead of 20,000.

The refresh also adds some new travel perks outside American Airlines. Cardmembers will get complimentary Omni Hotels & Resorts Champion Status. They can also earn an annual Omni free night reward after a qualifying stay. In addition, the card now includes Avis President’s Club status, with enrollment available through Aug. 31, 2028. American says these additions are meant to stretch the card’s value beyond flights and airports.
A qualifying stay means at least two straight nights booked directly through Omni Hotels and Resorts on omnihotels.com. The Champion Status benefit also needs enrollment first. These new perks are meant for travelers who want more value from hotels and rental cars, not just lounge entry.

One of the biggest updates is that Citi is giving frequent American Airlines travelers more chances to earn elite status faster. The card now offers 10,000 bonus Loyalty Points at four different milestones during the qualification year.
You can earn the bonus at:
This means the maximum bonus has doubled from 20,000 Loyalty Points to 40,000 Loyalty Points.
American said these new milestones were added because they match important stages in a member’s elite-status journey. For travelers who already earn a large number of Loyalty Points every year, these extra bonuses can reduce the amount of flying or other qualifying activity needed to reach a higher elite tier.
However, casual American Airlines travelers may not benefit much. The first 10,000 Loyalty Point bonus only starts after a member reaches 50,000 Loyalty Points during the qualification year.
Even with all the new features, the Citi / AAdvantage Executive Mastercard is still mainly a lounge access card. It remains the only credit card that includes a full Admirals Club membership.
At present, buying an Admirals Club membership separately costs $750 to $850, depending on your AAdvantage elite status. American has also confirmed that these membership prices will increase from Aug. 23, although the new prices have not been announced yet.

“It’s one of the cornerstones of this card,” Long said. “We feel like it competitively puts us in a very good spot versus other airline cobranded cards.”
American is also continuing to expand its lounge network by opening new Admirals Club locations and upgrading existing ones across the country.
The refreshed Citi / AAdvantage Executive Mastercard is likely to offer the best value to frequent American Airlines travelers. If you already pay for Admirals Club access and regularly use the new travel credits, the benefits can easily help offset the $695 annual fee.
