How to Activate a CommBank Card Using the Mobile App

Using the CommBank app is one of the easiest ways to activate your new card. The current CommBank instructions are:

  • Open the CommBank app and log in.
  • Tap Cards at the bottom of the screen.
  • Find and select the card you want to activate, then tap Activate card.
  • Enter your CommBank app PIN and enter the last 4 digits of your new card.
  • Choose a new PIN for the card and enter it again, then tap Submit to finish.

Not every replacement card needs to be activated. You can check the Cards section in the app to see the cards that are already active. CommBank also says that a primary cardholder must activate both their own card and the card belonging to a secondary cardholder.

How to Activate a CommBank Card Through NetBank

You can also use NetBank if you prefer online banking. Before doing this, you need to be registered for NetCode.

  • Sign in to NetBank.
  • Go to Settings and select Card activation.
  • Enter the last 4 digits of your card and click Check.
  • Set and confirm your new card PIN.
  • Click Get NetCode and enter the code you receive.
  • Click Activate to finish.

If you are not registered for NetBank, CommBank says existing customers can register using their card number, card PIN and the mobile number registered with the bank.

Common Activation Problems

  • If your NetCode does not arrive, check that your registered mobile number is correct and request the code again. For help, CommBank can be contacted on 13 2221.
  • If the app or website is not working, make sure your CommBank app is updated. You can also try NetBank instead.
  • If the card details are not accepted, check the last 4 digits carefully and make sure you are activating the new card rather than an older card.

Can You Activate the Card by Phone?

Yes, you actually can do that. CommBank says customers can call 13 2221 for card activation and PIN help. CommBank also advises customers to use official channels and not share their PINs, passwords or NetCodes with anyone.

For better security, choose a PIN that is hard for other people to guess. Avoid using simple numbers such as your birth year or an obvious sequence.
