IRS Refund Status: What to do if you still don’t have your stimulus payment and refunds

The IRS 'Where's My Refund?' website allows taxpayers to check their refund status 48 hours after filing, providing information on refunds for the last two years and current year.

IRS Refund Status: If you recently filed your taxes and are wondering why you haven’t gotten your refund, you can check its status 48 hours after filing online using the IRS “Where’s My Refund?” website. This tool also lets you get information on refunds for the last two years and the current year.

According to the official IRS website, taxpayers don’t need to check their refund status more than once a day. The IRS frequently updates “Where’s My Refund?” nightly. A tax refund won’t be expedited by calling the IRS.

The data that IRS phone assistants have access to is the same data that is available on Where’s My Refund. “Taxpayers should allow enough time for their bank or credit union to send their refund to their account or for it to arrive in the mail.”

According to IRS guidelines, processing an electronically submitted return can take up to 21 days, while processing a mailed or amended return must take at least 4 weeks.

Nevertheless, several things can make it take longer to execute your refund. Errors on your tax return are a common problem that can need more examinations, adjustments, or extra forms.

In an interview with NBC New York, IRS spokesperson Alejandra Castro stated that going to an IRS support centre doesn’t expedite the refund procedure.

Alternatively, you can use the IRS2GO app or the “Where’s My Refund?” portion of the IRS website to track your refund and get information the quickest.

“Visiting a taxpayer assistance center does not speed up your refund,” Castro stated, according to Marca. “However, if a taxpayer has any doubts about where their tax return is in the process, if it’s been a long time that it seems to the taxpayer that something could be wrong, then they definitely should call the IRS or set up an appointment to go to one of the taxpayer assistance centers.”
