Medicare Plan G in 2025: Coverage, Costs, and Why Seniors Choose It

Medicare Plan G has become the top Medigap choice for new seniors in 2025, covering most Medicare costs except the Part B deductible, with monthly premiums from $117 to $324.

Medicare Plan G in 2025: Medicare Supplement Plan G, sometimes called Medicare Part G, has become the favorite choice for seniors who want help paying for things Original Medicare doesn’t cover. Before 2020, most people went for Plan F because it covered almost everything, but new people can’t sign up for Plan F anymore.

Plan G is sold by private insurance companies, and it’s made to handle nearly all the extra costs that Medicare Parts A and B don’t pay for. The only thing it doesn’t cover is the yearly Medicare Part B deductible, which will be $257 in 2025. So the way it works is pretty simple people just pay that Part B cost each year, and after that, Plan G takes care of the rest.

What Medicare Part G Includes

Plan G’s wide support makes it good for seniors who want steady health costs. The plan covers:

  • Part A deductible and coinsurance for hospital stays
  • 365 extra hospital coverage days beyond Medicare limits
  • Skilled nursing facility coinsurance
  • Part B coinsurance or copayment
  • First three pints of blood each year
  • Part A hospice care coinsurance/costs
  • Part B excess charges of up to 15%
  • 80% of approved emergency care abroad

How Much it Costs and What you Get?

The price of Plan G depends on where you live, your age, and your health history. In 2025, most people will be paying somewhere between $117 and $324 each month. For anyone who wants to pay less each month, there’s also a High-Deductible Plan G. That one has a much lower monthly cost, usually between $40 and $100, but it won’t start covering things until you have paid $2,870 out of your own pocket in that year.

For a $10,000 doctor’s visit under Part B:

  1. The user pays $257.
  2. Medicare pays 80% of the remaining costs.
  3. Plan G pays the 20% left, plus any extra charges, leading to no more costs.

For hospital stays, Plan G pays all of the $1,676 Part A cost and any more coinsurance, saving users from shock bills.

Medicare Part D Premiums Set to Rise in 2026: How much will you Pay?

One of the best parts about Plan G is the help it gives with hospital costs. Medicare Part A has a $1,676 deductible, but Plan G covers all of that, plus any extra coinsurance you might owe. That means people don’t get stuck with big surprise hospital bills, which is a huge relief for many seniors.

Health experts have been saying that Plan G is one of the easiest and safest options to get. One Medicare expert from the Senior Health Alliance even said, “It’s the most comprehensive Medigap plan new enrollees can buy, and it offers real peace of mind.” Many people like it because they know it will cover most of their needs, especially if they have health problems that need regular care.

The best time to get Plan G is during the six-month Medigap enrollment after signing up for Part B at 65, ensuring acceptance. It excludes drugs, dental, vision, hearing, and costs vary.
